Is There Anything Besides Email and Facebook....

Are you stuck in a rut on what to do online besides email and Facebook? Or do you hear of all these awesome sites and have never found them? We have several two hour workshops coming up for you. The “Beyond Email” workshop will be held February 3rd from 10-12 pm at the Bollinger County Library. The focus will be on exploring the internet to find all these “amazing sites” that is out in cyberspace. It will be a fun, relaxing two hours of finding and visiting these sites. Please call 238-2713 and ask for Tammy to sign up.

The next class will be held on the 10th focusing on “Free Music and Movies?” The internet has a variety of sites that is legal for you to download your audio books and music on your Mp3 players. Movies are also available for download from a few choice sites. The movies are classics for the most part not new releases. We will show you these sites and explain how to take advantage of these offers. The focus on the February 17th class will be “Menus, Recipes and Magazines”. Magazine sites are quite remarkable with a wealth of information available. The recipes offered on the sites are the same ones on the front of your most recent magazine purchase. The beauty of the web sites is the recipe from two years ago is also there. Menu planning sites have jumped leaps and bounds in the past year or so. Reputable sources such as the American Heart Association have wonderful menu planners. Recipes are everywhere to the point it is necessary to weed out the ones which you have no interest in. The final meeting of the month will be held on the 24th focusing on “Where to go and What to Do”. Navigating the internet to find flea markets or motels by the location you will be staying out is easy if you know how to do it. The workshop will show you how to find the places you want to go and where to find them!

The library is also going to hold a bi-monthly Weeknight Computer Class held on the first and third Thursdays through the month of February and March. The classes will run from 6-7:30 pm. The first class will be on Microsoft WORD 2007. The tasks you can accomplish in word is endless if you know how to guide your way through it.

Christmas is here in Bollinger County, MO

The Bollinger County Library hopes everyone is enjoying this beautiful season. Here are a few Christmas books to get you started out for the season!

A favorite for tween readers is Christmas in the Big Woods by Laura Ingalls Wilder. This short tale from the famed “Little House” series focuses on Laura’s winter in Wisconsin and how she helps her family get ready for Christmas.

Every child knows about Santa Claus, the jolly man who brings gifts to all on Christmas. There are many stories that tell of his life, but the delightful version relayed in The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus is by far the most charming and original of all. Only L. Frank Baum, the man who created the wonderful Land of Oz, could have told Santa's tale in such rich and imaginative detail.

Snowbears Christmas Countdown The month of December is full of joyful anticipation for Snowbear—there are just so many things to do before Christmas arrives. For starters, Snowbear must put up decorations, buy gifts for his friends, make hot chocolate and cookies, and—let’s not forget—play in the snow and ride his sleigh!

The Polar Express-On Christmas Eve a young boy who truly believes in Santa Claus is invited to board the Polar Express--a train that brings him and other young believers directly to the North Pole. Once there, the boy is chosen by Santa himself to receive the very first gift of the Christmas season. The gift the boy selects, a bell from the harness of one of Santa's reindeers, becomes a magical reminder of the boy's very special night.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas is by Dr. Seuss. Dr. Seuss creates the fictional town of Who-ville. He uses the kids' book to teach the true meaning of Christmas. Every Christmas the citizens of Who-ville exchange presents eat a feast and sing Christmas carols. This happens Christmas after Christmas to the joy of the townspeople. There is one person who doesn’t feel the joy. He is the Grinch. The Grinch lives in a cave on Mt. Crumpit. The dog, Max, is his only friend.
