Express Yourself Summer and Teens

I have been talking more and more to my teens here at the library. I am amazed of how excited they are to being a part of the Express Yourself in showing my tweens what they can do and how they got started on it. I have one girl going to trade school along with high school in culinary so she will be showing easy food to prepare without cooking along with recipes and instructions. I have one boy who helps his mom rescue animals going to do a presentation with a dog and the care while I show how attentive dogs are to reading to them. One boy will be sharing his writing abilities and how he began and got to where he is. I have a list AND they are happy! I forget that teens are willing to help if you ask. It is easy to forget when you are constantly asking for them to stop cussing, one to a chair and "no you can not access that site."

I am only a few years old in the library community but I love the layout they have for the summer reading program for 2009. It allows librarians to open their minds to new ideas of what kids are doing to express themselves which is different from when I was a youngster. I am hopeful for a strong attendance and a solid bond between the teens and the library.
