What is going on??

Hello, I wonder if everyone is hanging on to their seats to see how this year is going to turn out within our government and economy. I realize for myself I worry about our library and the teens that I have grown attached to. I love my job and the public that goes with it! The teens are my favorites I must admit. I love sitting amongst them and just listen. I hear the stories that kill me inside and make me want to take them all home but I realize that this is their life and at least I can listen without judgement. I love their excitement over Runescape Night which with all honesty I still do not get (the game anyway!) but when I watch them pile in with their somber faces ready to play (which soon becomes animated faces) I am just as excited. I basically listen to them and find out where I need to be in the room. You can tell when one is distraught or when one is being avoided after that it is just going over and listening. I love it!
The library is good and busy a lot of things are starting to happen and I am like stuck in the middle not sure what is happening for real or in my little grant world. As soon as I decipher my worlds I will write and let you know!

Library Advocacy Day in Missouri!!!

The day in Jefferson City went wonderful to speak to the people in charge of funding the public libraries within the State of Missouri. Sheeley Keeney was amazing to see at her desk representing our area. She was proud and full of information regarding the funding for the library and what it entailed to be passed. Jason Crowell is also a supporter of the library and was very confident of the funding for the library being passed. He was also very informative and kind when discussing resources for are area. I had never been to Jefferson City and thoroughly enjoyed the town. The shops was lovely and I found the most wonderful coffee shop that had baklava that was to die for! Their was also a book store that I had to enter and found an amazing magazine rack that I felt compelled to buy several magazines. Needless to say I had a wonderful time. I loved the opportunity to meet with our leaders and discuss the issues concerning our area and finding our where they stood and I am happy to say they stand just great!!!

Rural Library and Science?

Hello! The library director has been busy this week helping parents find ways to keep teens from being bored in science class. So far she has me starting a "science" club (which I have yet to decide the name for) in March which I imagine will be awesome for myself and the kids! She has also found this great site full of summer camps for middle age to high school age kids with an interest in science and technology. The link is http://precollege.mst.edu/mets/index.html . The site is a great one to browse just to see what opportunities are out their for kids these days. I can honestly say I would of loved to have this opportunity when I was a child!!!

Weathering the Storm @ the Rural Library!

The library weathered this storm but not 30 miles away definitely needs our thoughts. The time of tax season is upon us and were our the tax forms at the library "on the table in the back room". I can not count how many times I have said that the past week! The kids are going back to school today which will calm the library during the day but low and behold Runescape is tonight so be prepared! The teens will be answering a few questions today about future events it seems my ideas without their input is not going very far! I will be attending the Missouri Library Advocacy Day in Jefferson City next week I can not wait. I love talking about things I believe in! I definitely see the need for the library on a daily basis simply because I work there but all those people that ask questions and we help find the answers feel the same way. I am excited about work, life and the libraries future in our rural community!!
